Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (May 27, 2016)

Welcome to this week's Inbox.  For those that have recently discovered us, Inbox is our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our email inbox. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday.

Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.  Here is this week's news that caught our eyes ...

________

Glenfiddich

The best selling single malt brand of Glenfiddich have revealed new packaging for the premium 21 years old expression.  The design has been inspired by the finishing that the whisky undergoes in ex-rum casks from the Caribbean including gold detailing, a charcoal design on the interior and an ornate texture.  Glenfiddich have also revealed that they will be releasing the 21 years old in a 20cl size also.  Both will be available through retailers shortly.

Glen Grant
The Rothes-based Speyside distillery of Glen Grant, owned by Gruppo Campari, has announced three new bottlings for their core single malt range - the Glen Grant 12 years old, 12 years old Non Chill-Filtered and 18 years old.  All three bottlings will feature the brand's new packaging, livery and logo, which pays homage to the distillery's founder Major James Grant.

"We are extremely proud of our new look which perfectly represents the passion, craftsmanship and family heritage of Glen Grant, while staying true to our Scottish heritage."
Jared Ricardo - Global Public Relations Manager at Gruppo Campari.

The 12 years old and 18 years old will cost £38 and £110 respectively and is bottled at 43% ABV.  They will be available from supermarkets and whisky specialists.  The 12 years old Non Chill-Filtered will be exclusive to travel retail and is bottled at 48% ABV.  The price will be £37 and all three expressions are available from the start of June.  The rest of the existing Glen Grant range will also be released in the new packaging this year.

Jura
The island distillery of Jura have announced the details of this year's limited edition bottling for their Tastival festival, which took place on Wednesday and yesterday (May 25 and 26).  The Jura Tastival 2016 Edition features a triple ex-sherry cask finish and the final casks were hand selected by outgoing Distillery Manager Willie Cochrane, who has recently announced his retirement.  The packaging features images of the whisky's flavour profile created by German illustrator Florian Schommer.  It will be available from May 30 at the distillery and selected worldwide retailers.  The price is £85 a bottle.

“Every limited edition is special, but this one’s particularly close to my heart as it commemorates my last Jura Tastival, which has been a highlight on my calendar for the past ten years.”
Willie Cochrane - Former Distillery Manager at Jura.
